The score to the documentary apparently too controversial for BBC and Channel 4 to run is now streaming on Soundcloud.
Thom Yorke and Robert Del Naja (aka 3D Massive Attack) contribute to the score. The documentary is about corporation tax avoidance in the UK.
Yorke, supporting the documentary said ” now is the time to reveal the revolving doors between government and the city that has bred lies and corruption for so long, siphoning money through our tax havens for the global super rich, while now preaching that we the people must pay our taxes and suffer austerity”.
We would love to see him on The Late Late talking to Tubridy about it!
Check the trailer below – it alone will make you angry – essential viewing.
SOAK just finished her tour of skate park shows around Ireland and England and has even made a tour video for NME, below.
Living the life.
Currently selling out tours in Australia, her debut album ‘Before We Forgot How To Dream’ is out on the 29th May in Ireland, 1st June in the UK, and 2nd June in US and Canada.
We just can’t get enough of her song ‘Sea Creatures’. Lovely.
One of our favourite acts from Vantastival 2012 was Cry Monster Cry – they had tweeted about leaving home without their guitar and needed one badly, so we knew we just had to catch their set and interview them!
Little did we know we would end up talking about the Mayan calendar, how the world was going to end in 2012, and where their name actually came from.
We’re glad to see Richie and Jamie’s world didn’t end in 2012, and they have since been on the up and up and are releasing their debut album ‘Rhythm of Dawn’ on March 6th.
Check out their current single ‘Postcards’ below.
Showcasing the upcoming album they have announced an Irish tour which sees them sending us postcards from all four corners of Ireland and heading back to Vantastival later this year – Even if they forget a guitar, their set is sure to be a good one. Mark your Mayan calendars people.
Ash fans rejoice – the Northern Irish group are back! With no date pinned down yet for the release of the new forthcoming album ‘Kablammo’, we finally have a taste of what it will sound like with the release of the track ‘Cocoon’. True to form, the track is upbeat and immediately catchy with a strong baseline. Typical Ash at it’s best.
Tickets for their upcoming gigs and album pre-orders are available here. Grab ’em while they’re hot!
Vantastival has finally released the 2015 line up. And the happy campers who got their hands on the sold out early bird tickets are going to be very happy when they pitch their tents on May bank holiday weekend.
The independent festival has always been good to the Irish music scene showcasing such Irish gems as Fight Like Apes, The Hot Sprockets, And So I Watch You From Afar, and Damien Dempsey – pretty impressive to be fair.

As requested, we have converted our video podcasts to Soundcloud. This should make it a lot easier for people to access, download and listen to. We will be doing this with new podcasts from now on. If you still want to watch the videos, you can get them here.
Nine years ago this week, Rodrigo y Gabriela released their first album. The Mexican duo posted this to Instagram:
This week, 9 years ago, our first album came out. We wanna thank you all for your support through the years. We will continue doing our best to make you feel good while listening to our music live or on a record. Without your love and respect we wouldn’t be doing what we love the most. Have a beautiful week whatever you are and see you down the road again soon… Hugs, kisses and more!
Such a great album. I’ll still be listening to it in another 9 years.
So what are doing this Friday 13th; the eve of Valentines night? Well Le Galaxie have you sorted with their Prom Night. The lads want to celebrate their recent signing to Universal Music Ireland and the release of their new album ‘Le Club’ in April.
Their Facebook page says:
Le Galaxie DJs present…
PROM NIGHT
A Valentine’s Eve Dance Party
As some of you may have heard, Le Galaxie recently signed with Universal Music Ireland and are set to release their new record LE CLUB in April. However, April is a million years away and Le Galaxie would like to celebrate NOW the only way Le Galaxie know how…WITH A PARTY!
On the most un-romantic night of the year, Friday 13 February, in the basement of the Arlington Hotel (AKA. the home of Mother Club), Le Galaxie DJ’s present PROM NIGHT.
Tickets for PROM NIGHT are €10 Doors: 11pm.
If you’re planning on going, get your tickets quickly and psych yourself up with the Prom Night mix from their Soundcloud page.
Villagers have just announced their 205 highly anticipated 2015 live dates. April and May are going to be a busy months for Conor O’Brien but at least he will have the full band behind him. Apparently, Conor played all of the instruments on the new album ‘Darling Arithmetic’, as well as writing the music, producing, and recording it himself. Phew!
The Grammy Awards gets a lot of stick. I’m not sure why really – as an artist, it must feel nice to win or be nominated for a gong? Perhaps for the artists, it’s the equivalent of us normal folk cringing at the thoughts of going to a wedding for fear of sitting next to the awkward uncle, or at the rowdy table that will make too much noise, get horribly drunk, and annoy the bride during the speeches. Tensions are high on the night I’m sure, so the party goers drink more than they should to settle the nerves (we’ve all done it), then when they don’t win, it embarrassing. You have to hold it all in as there are so many faces and cameras looking right at you. Don’t you Kanye?
He has no problem crashing an acceptance speech – remember the MTV VMAs 2009 when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech saying “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m going to let you finish — but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time,”
And he’s done it again. This time, the unsuspecting winner was Beck, accepting a gong for Album of the Year. Kanye looked set to declare his disgust again that Beyonce didn’t win, but then held off – probably when he saw the scared look in Becks eyes.
Stuff like this is TV gold. Let’s face it, award ceremonies can sometimes be boring to watch and incidents like this make it interesting and are a sure-fire way to set the internet and social media on fire.
Kanye continued with the following interview on E! News – Seriously, you need to watch this.
Trent Reznor was nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for Gone Girl, but I doubt he was ever going to show up or win after his disgruntled tweet last year – he paired up with Lindsey Buckingham, Dave Grohl and Queens of the Stone Age only to be cut short on the performance when the show ran over by 15 minutes.
The face of award ceremonies has changed in recent times with the likes of Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey presenting while roasting all the elites sitting in front of them, so perhaps we are going to see more of this type of thing from now on. It’s expected that something or someone is going to do or say something at them these days. Change is good.
Perhaps Aphex Twin will do something crazy at the Meteor Choice awards on March 5th, after picking up a Grammy gong for Best Dance/Electronic Album. with ‘Syro’.
For a full list of all of the nominees and winners, click here.
Speaking of the Meteor Choice awards, don’t forget you can still vote every day for your Song of the Year here and see the nominations for Album of the Year here.
You can catch the Grammy highlights on RTE2 tonight at 7.30pm.
Ahead of the eagerly anticipated Grammys, where our very own Hozier is up for Song of the Year with Take me to Church, Andrew Hozier Byrne posted this snap of himself and Annie Lennox chilling between rehearsals. As you do.
Busy meeting the stars over the water, he also managed to bag the ever popular Ellen DeGeneres show – not sure of the local showing of this, but will let you know as soon as!
Ellen recently had Ed Sheeran on alongside LL Cool J! Good times.
Royal blood have had a great few months. Ever since their crowd packed show at Glastonbury 2014, the hype of the Brighton duo has gone from strength to strength.
One of my favourite tracks on the self titled debut album is the opener ‘Out of the Black’, which is now the latest single to be released. Does the artwork of the album remind anyone of a Bjork cover??
The video is NSFW, and flips over to animation a la Kill Bill style for the particularly violent parts. It works really well, and allows for more out of this world violence and great seedy animation.
If you have been living under a rock for the last few months and haven’t managed to hear anything from Royal Blood yet, maybe start off with their catchy and addictive Figure it Out.
The lads will hit our shores with their unique bass and drum sound on March 9th (sold out!) and 10th in the Olympia.
Finally. The new And So I Watch You From Afar album ‘Heirs’ hits the shelves in Ireland on the 4th May. Yes we are excited. It’s their fourth studio album, and to tie in with the release, ASIWYFA have just announced ONLY two Irish dates – 19th June at the Olympia Theatre and 20th June at the Mandela Hall in Belfast. Tickets will be gold dust.
Earlier this week the Belfast boys teased us with the first glimpse of the new album artwork by Sonny Kay.
I dunno know about you, but something about it reminds us of ‘Logans Run‘!
And, as if to whet your palette even more, they have released their first track ‘Run Home’ from the album. Turn up your speakers and close your eyes. Its amazing.
Wallis Bird has just announced a string of tour dates where she will be flying solo. The majority of the intimate solo gigs are based in Europe, with the exception of the one in May which will be held in Star Pine’s Cafe in Tokyo Japan! Looks like a nice little spot, enjoy the flight!
13.02. Berlin (GER) – Stadion an der Alten Försterei
19.03. Freiburg (GER) – Jazzhaus
20.03. Hartberg (AT) – Rittersaal
21.03. Wien (AT) – Haus der Musik
23.04. Osnabrück (GER) – Laboratorium
24.04. Moers (GER) – Bollwerk 107
26.04. Mühlheim (GER) – Schanz
30.05. Tokyo (JP) – Star Pine’s Café
Of course, if you can’t make it to Tokyo, or Europe for any of these gigs (shame on you!), you can grab wallis (not sure if it’s solo or not) at the Killarney Festival this June. Killarney Festival was previously the Wesport Festival, and this year will see the return of Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra among others.
The selection of festivals already announced for 2015 is staggering! It’s going to be a busy summer!
Fair play to Whelans – now in it’s 25th year of showcasing amazing talent from across the country, as well as from across the globe, and now scooping the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hot Press Live Music Venue of the Year awards last night.
It’s been a great year for the venue, selling out many internationally recognised acts such as Ed Sheeran and Damien Rice. \it has also recently given itself a new lick of paint on the outside and looks as fresh as ever!
I’m sure heads are very sore today in light of receiving the award. 5th on Teeling, the Sligo based music venue which received a nod for promoting the local scene in the North West, tweeted a picture of the award.
The splendid Villagers are set to release their third studio album on the 13th April 2015. The album will be titled ‘Darling Arithmetic’ with the title track ‘Courage’ kicking off the hype. The album will be available on CD, Limited Edition LP and download.
Have a listen to ‘Courage’ here:
It’s been a while. We have been busy on other projects, being parents, promotions, health scares etc. Now it’s time to get the ball rolling again. We going proper podcast style this time. No video, unless someone is willing to do it for us?
